Performing Pictures is our very own app that brings school and nursery photos to life. Using augmented reality through your phone or tablet it turns printed photos into something truly incredible.
To make this jaw-dropping technology work, all you need is our app and a QR code that we supply - nothing else!
We offer this completely free of charge and if there is a Performing Pictures video attached to your photo, we will include the QR code when your photos are delivered.

How much extra is Performing Pictures?
We offer Performing Pictures for free! If your photo has a Performing Pictures video attached to it, you will automatically receive it free of charge when you place an order
How do I get a Performing Pictures photo?
If your photo has a Performing Pictures video attached to it, you will get it without needing to add anything to your basket. When you receive your order a Performing Pictures QR code will be included for you to scan with your phone or tablet.
Performing Pictures are created when an order is placed and it can take up to 3 days for this process to be completed.
What is the best print size to order?
For Performing Pictures to work best, we strongly recommend that you get a large print as you will be viewing it through a device. We offer prints up to 8x12" (close to A4 size) however if you are looking for something smaller, a 6x8" will work just fine.
Do all of your photos work with Performing Pictures?
No. We only use Performing Pictures for school/nursery leavers - Year 6, Year 2 (infant school only) and Pre-School. We also do Performing Pictures for the Reception but only as a class photo.
Can I see the video before I place an order?
Unfortunately not. We offer Performing Pictures for free so if you like the photo we have taken, then the video is an added bonus.
Can I just buy the video and not the photo?
The photo and video are linked and we do not sell the video separately. The photo is what you are buying, the video is an added extra for free.
If I can't see the video before, what can I expect?
We hope you love the photos we take and would want to buy them even if it didn't have the Performing Pictures video attached. However, as parents ourselves, we understand that this is a little bit different so the video might be just as important.
Below is what you can expect from the video but there is also a bit of space for the pupils to show their personality in the video so it might not always go how we think it might!
Year 6 individual photos
This is a single photo with a Performing Pictures video. Unlike the individual and portrait session earlier in the year, this is a far more relaxed pose and usually outside, weather dependant! In the video, pupils tend to...
- introduce themselves - name and school
- say what their favourite subject is and what they like doing
- what job they would like to do
- say what school they moving to
Class photos
For our class photos, most of the time Year 6 will walk one-by-one from thier position in the group photo up to the camera and wave or do something with a little flare! The whole video takes as long as it takes each child to stand up and do thier own action, usually around 2 minutes and typically set to background music.
Reception class and Year 2 leavers (infant school only) will have prepared a short song that is sung as a group or wave at the camera.
Pre-School leavers
Our Pre-School leavers record a short video which is usually just a wave. Sometimes the video might also include them saying thier name and what school they are going to but this is very much dependant on the child. This video is very short and only lasts around 3-5 seconds.
My child hasn't got a video, what happened?
Just like with our photos, no pupil is forced to have a Performing Pictures video recorded. With years of experience working with children we will try our best to make everyone feel comfortable and confident and along with the help of the teachers, we encourage everyone to record something, even if it is really short. Sometimes though, getting a video recorded wasn't possible, however you can still order the photo if one was taken.
I don't have a phone or tablet, what can I do?
Performing Pictures uses augmented reality that requires a smartphone or tablet. You can still order the photo and a code will be included so that if in the future you have access to a device, you will still be able to use the technology.
I don't like my Performing Pictures video, what can I do?
We offer Performing Pictures for free and your order is for a photo print - this is why your invoice and order doesn't list the Performing Pictures video. If in the unlikely event you do not like the video, this will not change anything about your ordered photo.
Where is the video stored on my device?
The video is stored using the internal storage on the device. However, it is only accessible through the app and you won't be able to find it on your camera roll.
Where does Kent School Photography store the video?
In order for Performing Pictures to work, we use a cloud based server so that the QR code can be scanned at any time to be used. We have selected to use a UK-based server and we are the only users who can access this. All of the data is securely encrypted and complies fully with GDPR.
I have placed an order and received a QR code, what do I do?
The video at the top of this page explains how it works but below is a step by step guide.
- Scan the Performing Pictures QR code that you received with your order with a smartphone or tablet.
- Once you have scanned the QR code and opened the link, it should take you to the App Store so you can download the Performing Pictures app. Alternatively, search for "Performing Pictures" in your App Store.
- When the app opens for the first time, you will need to grant access to your camera for the technology to work.
- Scan the QR code again within the app. The video will then load and save.
- Now hover over your printed photo and watch it come alive!
- You do not need to scan the QR code again to watch the video unless you delete the app so keep it safe.
- To watch the video again at a later date, just open the Performing Pictures app and hover over the photo. The app will recognise the photo for as long as you keep the app.
